Harvest Specialty

All over the country right now, farmers and hobby-gardeners alike are enjoying the fruits of their labor. For juicerheads, this is a perfect time to head on down to the farmers’ market, produce store, or out to the back garden to score some fresh finds for the next batch of juice.

“Harvest specialty” is a versatile juice that capitalizes on some of the season’s harvests. There is plenty of room in this recipe to adjust for individual tastes, and some potential alterations are listed. This recipe will give you about 18 ounces of juice.

Asparagus is a vegetable that often goes overlooked for its benefits, when searching for those greens. Here’s why you should add asparagus to your diet, or feel wonderful about already including it as a staple:

  • Asparagus boasts antioxidants, which can help fight the aging process
  • Vitamins A, C, K, and E are all present in asparagus
  • Good source of dietary fiber
  • Contains glutathione, a cancer-fighting compound
  • Contains asparagine, an amino acid that helps to rid the body of excess sodium

Including asparagus in your juice may be a new step, but if you find that it’s not for you, asparagus has plenty of other delicious uses. Experiment with your juice, especially right now while many different varieties of vegetables are available, inexpensive, and fresh. Happy harvest!
