How to Prepare for a Juice Fast

Many, many people attest to the benefits that come with a juice fast. But although a juice fast will flood your body with nutrients and help to modify your eating habits, it’s not all fun and games. In order to make sure you successfully complete your juice fast and enjoy the journey along the way, it’s important that you put in adequate preparation time.

What to do Before a Juice Fast

Make sure you’re clear on how long you plan to fast for. Then be sure to plan ahead and figure out a good time period at least a few weeks away to fast. If you plan on doing a 3 day fast, a time period that’s generally recommended for first-timers, a long weekend where you begin on Friday evening can serve as a good option.

At least a week prior to your fast date, start to change your diet. Cut down on the amount of meat and fish that you eat at least a week in advance. At least 5 days in advance, steer clear of dairy products and avoid substances like caffeine and nicotine if at all possible. Ramp up your intake of fresh fruits and veggies. This will allow you to get used to the idea of solely subsisting off of them for several days.

The day before you begin your fast go out and purchase the fruits and veggies that you’ll need for your fast. If you’re aiming for a 3 day fast, go ahead and purchase all of the veggies you’ll need. If you plan on doing a longer fast, buy about half of the produce you estimate you need – this way, you’ll ensure you consume the freshest possible ingredients during the entirety of your fast.
