Infuse Protein into Juices

One of the major concerns for those that will be doing a juice cleanse is that a protein deficiency will develop. Proteins are essential for good health; every single body cell contains protein. Protein in the diet helps to rebuild and heal damage to cells. There are nine amino acids that we require from proteins, and animal products contain all nine of these. This is why they are called complete proteins. However, many plant products contain several amino acids, and can be combined to ensure that all essential proteins are received.

Getting Protein from Plants

It is possible to get all necessary protein from plants. Those doing a juice cleanse or fast or attempting to eat nothing but fruits and vegetables should be very careful to check nutritional information and make sure that the amount of protein being received is adequate, and that all amino acids are being consumed. The recommended daily allowance of protein is 46 grams for women and 56 grams for men. Some good plant sources of protein include kale, avocado, and broccoli, which also contain many other important nutrients. In addition, many types of seeds are high in protein and can be easily added to juices or meals with little or no change in taste. These include chia seeds, flax seeds, hemp seeds, and spirulina. These seeds may also thicken juices, making them more filling and satisfying.

Adding Protein Powders

While daily recommendations are a good guideline, actual individual protein needs may vary. In some cases, it may be difficult to achieve the optimal amount of protein just by adding seeds or certain vegetables to juices and meals. In these cases, a protein powder can go a long way toward achieving protein needs. For those that wish to remain on a vegan diet, there are pea and rice protein powders that can be added to juices. When purchasing protein powders, it is important to read the nutritional label and watch out for added sweeteners and preservatives. It is counterproductive to add an unhealthy protein powder to juices. Be sure to get enough protein when doing any type of a juice or vegetarian diet, and watch your labels and nutritional intake forbest results and overall health.
