Red Pepper Grapefruit Refresher

In this particular corner of the world, that something happens to be grapefruit, dubbed the worlds healthiest food by some. These trees enjoy two harvest seasons each year, and this is the second and coldest, so some say the fruit is sweeter this time around. Grapefruit is a terrific source of vitamin C, like most citrus, but the ruby red variety also boasts lycopene. Lycopene has been proven to kill free radicals and has been linked to anti-tumor activity. Ruby red grapefruit is believed to stave off hunger, lower cholesterol, and increase the body’s fat burning potential.Since grapefruits are juicier when they are warm, they should be stored at room temperature if they will be used within a week. Refrigerating the fruit may change the flavor slightly, but fruit will keep for up to three weeks under refrigeration. 

Ingredients

  • 1 large ruby red grapefruit
  • 2 celery stalks
  • 1 large red pepper
  • ½ lime

Directions

  • Wash all produce well before cutting, especially grapefruit. The skin is known to harbor bacteria that can be transmitted into the fruit if the fruit is cut into before it is washed.
  • Remove peel from grapefruit and lime
  • Remove stem and seeds from red pepper
  • Cut all fruit to fit through the juicer
  • Juice all fruit
  • Serve over ice for best flavor
