Spinach-Pear Sweetness

spinach-pear-sweetnessIt’s been a while since we’ve sung praises to Popeye’s favorite food, but that doesn’t mean we’ve fallen out of love with the lean, green powerhouse vegetable. Spinach remains one of the best things that you can add to your juice, whether in sprinkles or in heaps. As green veggies go, fresh spinach is mild in flavor and can be easily masked in juice with sweet fruits and vegetables. This is perfect for beginner juicerheads, veggie haters, and parents that hope to infuse some more nutrition into their children’s diets.

Spinach contains antioxidants that play a role in the prevention of conditions such as osteoporosis and high blood pressure. Spinach also contains lutein and zeaxanthin which protect the eyes from cataracts and macular degeneration. When it comes to protecting the body from disease, spinach is a powerful tool in boosting immunity. The vitamin A in spinach strengthens points in the body that microbes may enter, such as mucous membranes and the intestinal tract, helping the body to build up white blood cells in these areas to fight off infection.

  • ½ cup fresh parsley
  • 4 cups spinach
  • 2 large pears
  • 6 celery sticks
  • ½ lemon

  • Wash all produce thoroughly, allowing spinach leaves and parsley to soak to remove any dirt that is clinging between the leaves
  • Remove stems from pears
  • Peel lemon
  • If using a centrifugal juicer, juice celery and lemon, then spinach and parsley, then pears. This will allow you to get the most juice from all the produce, as the screen will become clogged when juicing the soft pears and leafy spinach and parsley
