Sunny Honeydew Juice

honeydew-juiceAs we’ve just reached the summer solstice, the sun is high in the sky for long hours. It’s important to stay hydrated in the face of all of this summer heat. And guess what? Drinking juice is a great way to stay hydrated.

We specifically recommend mixing this honeydew juice with either water or a liberal supply of ice cubes. These additions will help the juice to keep you hydrated, and also slow your sugar intake. After all, although honeydew is delicious, it’s also the sweetest of all melons.

Selecting a ripe melon is an important part of making this juice, as a ripe honeydew melon will provide the most nutrients as well as the greatest amount of juice. When purchasing honeydew, look for one which has a light yellow skin and feels a bit waxy to the touch. This melon is your winner.

  • 1 Honeydew melon
  • 1 Lemon
  • Mint to taste

  • The simple ingredients in this recipe make it super easy to whip up. But be sure to wash the melon before you do anything else. Then you’ve got a choice to make: you can remove the outer skin of the melon and juice the remainder, rind and all. Or you can cut the melon in half and use a melon baller to remove the softest juiciest bits from the middle. Your choice. The rind is nutritious, but not as sweet as the inner fruit.
  • Wash the lemon and mint thoroughly and juice it all up!
  • Pour over a generous glass of ice and enjoy.
